Books are cool again!

by

Well, not quite. But there does seem to be a curious upswing in the coolness of things that look like books. Who needs to read an actual book when you can carry around something that makes it look like you are reading an actual book? I could write an entire series on these new accessories, but this morning I’ll just leave you with this: the Bookbook. Tagline? “A Novel Idea to Cover MacBook.” Clever, no?

According to the company that makes them, Twelve South, each book is a “vintage work of art” (as it must be, considering these things go for about $80 a pop) and is made out of actual hardback leather. But why should you throw down your money simply for a good-looking protective cover?

“It’s a great disguise and a simple way to reduce the risk of your MacBook getting stolen.”

Ah yes. Thank god that antique books have become so worthless that no one will pick them up and walk off with them. Or maybe that will make people more inclined to pick them up and walk off with them? What are these people thinking?? If you want to protect your laptop, don’t leave it on the table at a random coffee shop. Don’t just disguise it is a book!!

Either way, I’m adding it to my wishlist. I’m a sucker for these kinds of things. Maybe they’ll start making them tablet-sized…
