The iLiad: it's history

Borders UK is abandoning its attempt — launched not all that long ago, to great fanfare — to sell its own ebook reader, according to a report by James Thompson in The Independent. Why? The reader — the iLiad, which costs £399 (also known as $581) — was viewed by customers as “not sustainable,” says Thompson, “given that Waterstone’s had been selling Sony‘s rival e-book device, the Reader, for £199 since last September.” Waterstone’s, meanwhile, says their program has been a huge success. Hmmm …. A Borders spokesperson tells Thompson, “We are going to replace it with another e-reader which should be announced in the next few weeks.”
