Celebrate Penguin Awareness Day by adopting a penguin!

As many of you already know, we’ve been dabbling in the penguin business since last October when we launched our Adopt-a-Penguin Promotion.
The deal is that we would adopt an emperor penguin in the name of participating bookstores for every 25 copies of either of Andrey Kurkov’s beloved books starring the penguin Misha (Death and the Penguin and Penguin Lost) that they sold.
The promotion has been such wonderful success, with independents and individual Barnes & Noble stores selling enough combined books to adopt a veritable rookery of penguins.
The contest is in its final few weeks (it finishes at the end of January) and we want to send it off with one big penguin bonanza.
On Friday (or really from now until the end of January) we’ll encourage you to call one of the participating stores and order a copy of one of the two books. You’ll be supporting a brick & mortar bookstore and helping them reach their next (or first) penguin adoption.
If this is just the kind of zany enterprise you would want to be then scroll down to the bottom of this post and pick out your favored bookstore. All of them are linked to a phone number or online retail component, so it won’t even be too difficult.
There are a lot of legendary booksellers on that list. Perhaps there is a favorite of yours on it, or perhaps you’d like to champion one of the underdogs that have yet to reach their first penguin. Whatever the case, we encourage you to join in the Adopt-a-Penguin fun on “Penguin Awareness Day.”
