Last May, spurred on by Jonathan Safran Foer, Chipotle Mexican Grill introduced a line of cups and takeout bags with short stories by authors like Foer, Toni Morrison, and George Saunders, among others. And as of this week, the burrito and taco chain has announced the 2015 class of authors for the project it calls Cultivating Thought.

In an exclusive for Vanity Fair, Kia Makarechi writes that Foer curated the new group of authors for Chipotle’s packaging. Among them are Augusten Burroughs, Julia Alvarez, Paulo Coelho, Barbara Kingsolver, Aziz Ansari, and Walter Isaacson. Considering that one of the main criticisms of the project when it debuted last spring was the omission of Latino authors, Alvarez says that she’s thrilled to be a part of it.

“I thought it was important as a Latina to add my voice to this series,” she tells Vanity Fair. “So it’s not just our food being served at Chipotle, but also our arts which we all vitally need to nourish the spirit and open wide the heart.” The story she wrote for Cultivating Thought, titled “Two-Minute Spanglish con Mami,” recounts Alvarez’s own struggle to learn English as a young immigrant to New York.

You can read Alvarez’s story—and those by Burroughs, Ansari, Coelho, and Kingsolver—online at Vanity Fair now; and of course, they’ll all be on bags and cups soon enough for your reading pleasure the next time you enjoy a burrito bowl.
