Dead man writing
by Dennis Johnson
“A long, unfinished novel by David Foster Wallace is scheduled for a posthumous release next year,” according to a brief AP wire story. The AP says says the book, The Pale King, “is set in an Internal Revenue Service office in Illinois in the 1980s,” and, according to a press release — issued, strangely, on Sunday — from Wallace’s longtime pubisher, Little Brown, will consist of “several hundred thousand words and will include notes, outlines, and other material.”
Dennis Johnson is the founder of MobyLives, and the co-founder and co-publisher of Melville House.
