FRIDAY SOMETHING-OR-OTHER-TO-DO-WITH-BOOKS MUSIC VIDEO: Bob Dylan & Weird Al Yankovic

Time for our weekly installment of music videos that include some sort of literary reference. Today it’s Bob Dylan’s “Subterranean Homesick Blues,” which is literary not only for its poetic lyrics, but also for its reference to Kerouac’s The Subterraneans and because Allen Ginsberg, that ubiquitous poet of many beards, plays a cameo role throughout the video.

 

 

I wonder what Dylan, who made news this week when he received the Presidential Medal of Freedom from Barack Obama, thinks of this second video, by Weird Al Yankovic, which, despite its inherent silliness, manages to stay somewhat literary with its ample use of palindromes …
