GRIFT Magazine launches with killer line-up

by

“The Factory novels are certainly the most viscerally imagined of their kind that I’ve ever read, or reread multiple times.  Derek Raymond wrote in a supposedly escapist genre in a manner that precluded any hope of escape.”

There is a new crime-fiction magazine on the scene, joining the likes of Crimespree, MysteryScene, Spinetingler, and The Strand. The perfectly named GRIFT Magazine launched last Tuesday with a killer line-up including Ray Banks, Ken Bruen, Lawrence Block, Chris F. Holm, Craig McDonald, Chris Offutt, Scott Phillips and more.

The above quote comes from  Scott Phillips, bestselling author of The Ice Harvest in issue #1 of GRIFT Magazine

The magazine combines new fiction with nonfiction reviews of books, movies and all things crime & noir. There are some real gems to be had in this debut issue, not the least of which (at least from our standpoint) is the lead piece which has bestselling author Scott Phillips writing a stunning review about our very-own Derek Raymond’s Factory Novels (the fifth and final of which is publishing in April). Anything that opens with the anecdote that, “I can’t claim that Jim Crumley never steered me wrong …” is a clear sign of the quality to follow.

James Crumley was a drinking partner of (and one of the few capable of outlasting) Derek Raymond and both toiled brilliantly at their craft, never receiving the full-recognition they deserved. This is of course what makes a new venue like GRIFT so important.

GRIFT is welcoming reviews, fiction and advertising and at its outset it appears publisher John Kenyon looks like he’s created a wonderful new venue for crime fiction and all its offspring.

At a 15% discount it is only $7.65 for 120 pages packed with great writing.
