History book is history

In the UK, “Pan Macmillan has issued an ‘urgent’ stock recall notice on Andrew Marr’s A History of Modern Britain for legal reasons.” Of course, as Katie Coyne continues in a report for The bookseller, no one knows what those “legal reasons” could possibly be, as the publisher “refused to elaborate on what the legal issues around the recall were.”

The announcement came as a shock — according to Nielsen Bookscan the book has sold around 250,000 copies since its 2007 release. But Coyne reports that all that’s certain right now is that “the publisher plans to re-issue the book when changes have been made.” Meanwhile, it’s asking booksellers to return all unsold copies of the book, and it will pay the postage.
