How books were made

by

So this video is currently making the rounds on the internet. We discovered it via the Huffington Post and watched with rapt attention. The opening of the video glosses over (really omits altogether) the editorial, marketing, and publicity components associated with making a book, but that’s okay. The amount of work–the labor and the number of people required to do it–that goes into making the plates for just one page of a book in 1947 is truly astounding. Granted, it ain’t done this way any more (with a few exceptions), but knowing how much back-breaking labor used to be required to print books definitely makes me appreciate them that much more.
