For the older Moby readers here is the Wikipedia definition of selfie:

selfie (/ˈselfiː/) [1] is a self-portrait photograph, typically taken with a hand-held digital camera or camera phone. Selfies are often shared on social networking services such as FacebookInstagram, or Twitter. They are usually flattering and made to appear casual. Most selfies are taken with a camera held at arm’s length or pointed at a mirror, rather than by using a self-timer.

While plenty of celebrities have released naval gazing collections of photographs such as Madonna‘s photo book Sex or Lady Gaga‘s co-lab with Terry Richardson, none have released a book entirely composed of self taken shots. And who better than “[The] trailblazer of the ‘selfie movement'” herself.  The Selfie™ fits so nicely into Kim‘s “brand”. From the very beginning everything in Kim‘s career has been self-produced and curated and most importantly all about herself.

I am certain this book will be my favorite piece of pop art created this year. The book begins with a blurry 1984 disposable camera shot of a 3 year old Kim and concludes with her marriage to Kanye West. The project kinda feels like Boyhood directed by Cindy Sherman produced by Jeff Koons. The book promises 300 total selfies for only $20. The breakdown will be 115 cleavage shots, 23 butt shots, 10 nude according to ET. I am assuming the remaining 148 will be boring old puritanical face shots. boooooooo. The cover of the book will be all white with no type. Just a photo. Not just any photo but what Kim has called her best selfie. Check it out.

I once read a research article that stated there was a correlation between posting a lot of selfies and “lower levels of social support from and intimacy with friends.” There is no way that can be true. Have you ever read the things that Kanye West has said about Kim. The entire idea to publish this narcissistic work of pop-art was dreamed up by Kim worshiper/rapper/artist/designer Kanye West. Kanye was once quoted as saying…

“No one is looking at what [President] Obama is wearing. Michelle Obama cannot Instagram a pic like what my girl Instagrammed the other day.”

Amen Yeezus.
