While on duty as assistant librarian in Russia, Kuzya the cat wears a bow tie and a determined expression.

Librarians in the Russian city of Novorossiysk adopted a homeless cat named Kuzya who showed up at their door last October. The librarians were impressed with his ability to bring patrons to the library, entertain children, and greet visitors on the front stoop, and according to The Moscow Times, he was quicky promoted from “pet” to “assistant librarian.”

Kuzya, who wears a dapper bow tie while strolling through the libraries shelves, was provided with a passport and promoted to a full assistant librarian by a special order of the library’s director.

A video on Russian news station (below) shows the official work permit documents signed by director of the library Lyudmila Zaitseva. One of Kuzya’s main roles is playing “Pushkin the Cat Scientist” in theatrical plays for children. According to reports, the cat is paid in food, fish filets, treats and scratching behind the ear.  While Kuzya spends his days in the library, he sleeps on the street at night.
