Scenes from the 2014 Brooklyn Book Fair
by Claire Kelley
Thanks to everyone who stopped by the Melville House booth at the Brooklyn Book Fair yesterday! We asked some of you to share the reasons behind your book selections, and we’re sharing some of the answers in the slideshow below.
“I am a highschool teacher and I’ve been teaching some of Mina Loy’s poetry. I was glad to see Insel in print. The Autobiography of Mary MacLane looks fascinating as a strange sort of protofeminist memoir.” —Christina Leja
“I’m interested in European characters in exile and I’ve never read Gerhardie.” —Steven Groene
“I work as a librarian for the New York Historical Society. I like World War I and studying the socialists and feminists of the prewar era.” —Maureen Maryanski
“I’m interested in food in general and the preface seemed interesting.” —Kaushik Reddy
“I’m a computer programming major and most textbooks don’t talk about Ada Lovelace, but she’s awesome.” —Michelle Pouliot
“I learned from Kirsten the editor about how John Waters is a huge fan of this book. Of course, I’m also interested in whales. Who isn’t?”—Margaret Carson
“I work for Dog Eared Books in San Francisco and we have a whole section of Neversink Library books, but I had never seen this one.” —Dan Weiss
