SLIDESHOW: Best literary curios on Tumblr
by Melville House
Earlier this month Nick Moran at The Millions posted a great guide to the best literary Tumblrs. We’ve been enjoying them ever since and highly recommend it as high-minded time-killer.
Here’s a slideshow of a few of our favorite oddities:
The Art of Google Books: devoted to scanning mistake from The Google Books project.
Bookshelf Porn: photographs of bookshelves and bookish objects
(If you’ve ever visited our office, you know we love bookshelf doors…)
“When two people are under the influence of the most violent, most insane, most delusive, and most transient of passions, they are required to swear that they will remain in that excited, abnormal, and exhausting condition continuously until death do them part.” — George Bernard Shaw, Getting Married
Slaughterhouse90210: pop culture pics + literary aphorism
“We long for an affection altogether ignorant of our faults. “Heaven has accorded this to us in the uncritical canine attachment.” —George Eliot

Better Book Covers: famous books, new names.
Michael Chabon: You can’t make this stuff up. Jonathan Franzen: Maybe you can’t. Michael Chabon: That’s it, Franzen! I think your nose needs some corrections!
The Lisa Simpson book Club: highlighting the books Lisa Simpson reads + other literary references in The Simpsons
Npluspersonals: personal ads run by N+1 interns trying to give the LRB a run for its allusions. For example:
“Middle Eastern female graduate student adrift in the Midwest. 30. I like Barthes, bourbon, bubble baths, and breakfast. I have been told that I excel at all things cozy. What I am looking for: Nedra and Viri’s early-middle years in Salter’s Light Years; the first side of Astral Weeks; a road trip partner; a gentleman brute.”
And a final image from Bookshelf Porn. A bed-book, that folds up when you’re done sleeping or reading.
