Stephen Colbert’s next career move: comic book hero

Stephen Colbert has had many titles over the course of his career: actor, comedian, talk show host, author—and this week he’ll be able to add one more to the list: comic book character.

A press release from Bluewater Productions announced this week that Colbert would be the star of the newest installment in its Political Power series. A spinoff from the Female Force series that tells the stories of powerful women like Hillary Clinton, Meredith Vieira, and Martha Stewart in comic book form, Political Power has previously featured the likes of Barack Obama, Nelson Mandela, and Richard Nixon, not to mention Colbert’s fellow Comedy Central late-night host, Jon Stewart.

The Colbert book, which clocks in at twenty-two pages, is written by Hal Hilden and illustrated by Kelly Brine. The latter is very enthusiastic to provide the drawings for this subject matter, saying, “Stephen Colbert’s brand of satire and interviews have entertained and enlightened my family and me for a decade. These drawings are my thank you for the smiles and laughter given to us by our favorite Renaissance man.”

President of Bluewater Darren G. Davis says that his goal for the Colbert comic book, as well as the Political Power series in general, is to reach young readers through a medium that appeals to them, with a positive message and in-depth biographies of important figures. In the release, he says, “Growing up, I was a reluctant reader. Bluewater strives to reach kids in similar situations that may be more apt to read when a comic book is placed in front of them. I have been a featured speaker in schools and found comic books to be an excellent way to reach children.”

The new comic is available on a variety of platforms, including ComiXology, iTunes, Kindle, Google Play, and several others.
