The Moby Awards are back! Check out last year's winners!

by

With submissions once again open for one-and-only book trailer awards, The Moby Awards, we thought we’d revisit the winners from the inaugural awards. Neither movie nor book, often low-budget, sometimes last-minute, frequently ill-conceived, the book trailer is a Frankenstein’s monster of an “art form.” So it’s only fitting that the Moby Awards celebrates a wide smorgasbord of categories, not just “Best…” but “Best Cameo” (Zack Galifianakis took the honors last year), “Most Annoying Performance by an Author” (and the winner is… Jonathan Safran Foer), and “Trailer Least Likely to Sell the Book.” So without further ado, let’s remember the year that was 2009 in… book trailers.

And since I’ve already piqued your interest, let’s begin with “most annoying performance by an author.” Ah, who can forget: Jonathan Safran Foer hanging out with his dog, sitting in his backyard, showing off his neighborhood, talking about his wife and kid and… yaaawn. Not just annoying, but also very boring!

But let’s not end on a snarky note. Check out this amazing stop-motion trailer for Maurice Gee‘s Going West winner of the Moby for “Best Big Budget/Big House Book Trailer.”

More to come. Don’t forget to submit your book trailers for your shot at the glory!
