The Washington Post expands its book coverage

by

When The Washington Post lost its stand-alone book review section in 2009, it was seen by many as a harbinger of doom for print literary criticism and, perhaps, newspapers themselves. So it is a welcome news that The Post has announced an expansion of its Sunday review section. As reported in Quill & Quire:

Starting Jan. 23, The Washington Post is expanding its Sunday book coverage to include two new specialized reviews.

The additional coverage is part of The Post‘s decision to split the Arts and Sunday Style sections, the latter of which will now come as a pull-out tabloid. The Arts section will feature a review of an arts-based book, while the Sunday Style section will get its own pop culture-themed book review.

It may be a small victory, but, combined with the new Wall Street Journal book review, here’s to hoping that newspaper book reviews are tip-toeing back from the brink.
