Wes Anderson is making book trailers now?

by

Leave it to Wes Anderson to reverse engineer things, and make a book trailer for a movie — for books that only exist in the fictional universe of the movie.

In his latest, Moonrise Kingdom, the young heroine, Suzy, carries a suitcase filled with her favorite books. She reads aloud from them throughout the movie. All the books sound so spot-on, that you think surely you know them or read them when you were a kid. It’s a surprise to learn that they don’t exist.

The books both inspire and comfort Suzy in her adventures in Moonrise Kingdom. And remind the viewer of the particular moment in childhood when the stories we read are as real, if not more so, than the real world. Below is a glimpse of Anderson’s fictional fiction.
