The three-volume edition of Wuthering Heights

The BBC reports that, “A first edition of the novel Wuthering Heights formerly owned by a Norfolk parson has been sold at auction for £163,250.”

There was no dithering. The final auction price far exceeded Sotheby’s expectations. According to the BBC, the three volume edition of Emily Bronte’s novel, “Described as ‘very rare’ by London auctioneers Sotheby’s, was expected to fetch between £50,000 and £75,000.”

Wondrous yet withering, that it went for £100,000 more than expected.

Written in 1847, this edition was once owned by a Rev Nathaniel Micklethwait, of Coltishall Hall, whose name was written in the book.

Sotheby’s has released no information about the buyer of the book.
