While he was regarded by many as somewhat of an avant-gardist writer who leaned toward the abstract, it would be a mistake to say Kurt Vonnegut ignored the fundamentals. To wit, his pithy 10 Rules for Writing Short Stories, which is about as good a guide to the form as you’ll ever get. The video below illustrates his voice-over explanation.
