Happy birthday, Banjo

Today is the birthday of Australian poet Banjo Paterson. Born Andrew Barton Paterson this day in 1865 in Narrambla, in New South Wales. “Banjo” became Australia’s best-loved “bush” poet. At the height of his fame his popularity rivaled Rudyard Kipling. He is now mostly remembered, at least Stateside, for his poem, “Waltzing Matilda”. Here is an amusing version of the song that has become Australia’s unofficial national anthem:
