Today is the birthday of Australian poet Banjo Paterson. Born Andrew Barton Paterson this day in 1865 in Narrambla, in New South Wales. “Banjo” became Australia’s best-loved “bush” poet. At the height of his fame his popularity rivaled Rudyard Kipling. He is now mostly remembered, at least Stateside, for his poem, “Waltzing Matilda”.
