It could’a been you, Colts!

Saints quaterback Drew Brees

Hello, sports fans! Can MobyLives find a Super Bowl book story tie-in? Yes we can!

It seems that New Orleans Saints quarterback, Drew Brees bought all his teammates a copy of Finish Strong, a motivational book by Dan Green. According to this report in the New Orleans Times-Picayune, the book “features inspirational anecdotes about people overcoming adversity in their lives.”

Brees also gave his teammates “Finish Strong” rubber bracelets on their first day of offseason conditioning back in April.

Seemed like a nice idea at the time. Yet now, considering the Saints end of season, “Finish Strong” has become a rallying cry for New Orleans Saints lovers everywhere. And it’s become a complete merchandising frenzy — with tee shirts, ball caps and printed signs at the Superdome. “Finish Strong” was chanted during the fourth quarter of the overtime game against the Minnesota Vikings as the Saints fought back in the final minutes of the game.

Dan Green, owner/operator of the Finish Strong franchise–books, videos, website–told the Times-Picayune, “I’m in this to make a difference. All of my friends who are Colts fans are giving me a hard time, asking me, ‘What are you doing? I gave the Colts the first shot at this, and they passed on it. The Saints got it, and now I’m on board the Saints train.”

But Brees might already have his eye on the post-season. In this interview with Men’s Journal, he praises the book he’s reading now: Golf’s Sacred Journey: Seven Days at the Links of Utopia, by David L. Cook. “It’s a book about golf, but it’s really a book about life,” he tells the Journal.

Maybe he’s revving up to inspire Tiger next.
