Marc Jacobs irritates neighbors … by opening a bookshop

by

According to a posting on Racked, the fashion designer Marc Jacobs is opening a new bookstore, to be called Book Marc, in New York’s West Village, in a space that was formerly occupied by the venerable Biography Bookshop, which recently relocated and changed its name to Book Book.

According to the Racked post, “If Marc Jacobs were deliberately trying to irritate West Villagers nostalgic for a time when the neighborhood was less glitzy and more literary, he couldn’t have found a better way to do it.” The shop’s storefront at 400 Bleecker Street currently has a simple sign reading “A bookstore will be opening here Winter 2010.” If true, it would be Jacobs’s first bookstore.
