Need a tan? Try Books-A-Million

by

Perhaps this story points to the untapped potential of our spaces, how underutilized our buildings really are and that, if we just use our imaginations and drop our inhibitions, we can discover a world of opportunity right before our eyes.

Witness the story of this Charlotte, NC man who was able to look at his local Books-A-Million and see not just a place to buy a good book but also thousands of square feet of sun-drenched space perfect for getting a tan. Except it’s on the roof.

Here’s the story by Nicole Smith in the Charlotte Observer:

A Rock Hill man was arrested after police found him on the roof of the Books-A-Million in Manchester Village, where he said he was just sunbathing.

Police charged Hale Hoeflick, 22, who lives on Village Green Lane, with trespassing and took him to the city jail, according to a Rock Hill police report.

Officers first responded to a call from the store around 7 p.m. that several juveniles were playing on the roof of the store, the report states.

When police went on the roof, they found a man who told them he was “trying to get a tan.”
