Now all I need is a better title for this blog post…

by

So, kind of in continuation from last week’s fun and slightly book-related post on obscure words — book do contain words, after all – is a relatively new blog. I give you: Better Book Titles. The blog’s creator, Dan Wilbur, acknowledges that as readers we can sometimes ‘have trouble slogging through the information on book jackets or feel intimidated by the title and cover itself’, and so Better Book Titles is here to help. The blog aims to give readers a way to get to know books they’ve always wanted to read, or perhaps books they feel they ought to have read, by getting rid of all the ‘cryptic crap’ surrounding certain titles.

Sometimes harsh, but mostly hilarious, the blog takes the jackets of famous books and digitally alters the image to erase the old title and include the new, better, title. While it’s certainly no substitute for reading in-depth, I’m sure it will grow to be a useful tool for students who have left things so late that they don’t even have time to read the Cliff Notes.

New titles are posted every weekday, and every Friday you too can have a chance to submit your own Better Book Title perhaps one day something from Melville House will feature then we’ll really know we’ve made it.

Now, go and have some fun seeing if you can name all the originals!
