Royal news

Prince Charles

Prince Charles, dressed like a Scotsman, laughs at someone

And now for some Royal news; culled, appropriately, from the Torygraph. Sarah Ferguson –- also known as the Duchess of York, or Fergie for short –- has long enjoyed an inexplicable popularity among those of the Yankee persuasion. After she was hounded out of the UK by ravening journalists, she found her metier on US daytime TV. The Adventures of Budgie the Helicopter followed shortly afterwards, assuring her place in literary history. Now, I’m terribly sad to break it to you, fans who have been anticipating her saucy historical thriller may have to wait in vain. According to this story by Tim Walker, the publication of Hartmoor, which the Duchess compared to Daphne du Maurier’s classic Rebecca (Hubris? Fergie? Never…), has been postponed indefinitely due to artistic differences. Or something like that.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch, Prince Charles is enjoying a return to rock star status. (You may laugh but in the 70s Charlie was hot!) The BBC recently invited him to read his two favourite Robert Burns poems for the BBC Scotland Audio Project. He chose ‘My Luve is Like a Red Red Rose’ and ‘My Heart’s in the Highlands’. Urmee Khan, Arts Correspondent for The Telegraph, reports that they’ve been a surprise hit: over 23,000 people have downloaded the former. Perhaps they were hoping he’d try for a Scottish accent; if so, they’ll have been sorely disappointed. HRH’s reading sounds more like a dirge. Listen to it here.
