Breaking news: Bush deal worth staggering $7 million. Do Son of Sam laws apply?

by

The Huffington Post is reporting “A well-placed source in the publishing industry says George W. Bush’s book deal is valued at about $7 million.” It’s a staggering amount, considering 1. that most publishers predicted little interest in a Bush book just last fall (as per this MobyLives report) and 2. it’s coming from a company, Random House imprint Crown, that has been consolidating, laying off people, and freezing and/or ending benefits, for months — as reported again and again and again on MobyLives.

Dennis Johnson is the founder of MobyLives, and the co-founder and co-publisher of Melville House.
