Translated fiction on national television!

by

Who’da thunk it: Translated fiction was discussed on American television last night when Charlie Rose did a program on Melville House’s publication of German writer Hans Fallada’s never-before-translated masterpiece Every Man Dies Alone. The show featured New York Times critic Liesl Schillinger, Melville House publisher Dennis Johnson, and the son of the author, Ulrich Ditzen. Also discussed, two other books in Melville House’s project to restore Hans Fallada to the English-speaking reader, The Drinker and Little Man, What Now?

Valerie Merians is the co-founder and co-publisher of Melville House.
